Sprucing up a boring office

I don't see many blog posts on offices, do you? I'm not talking home offices or the sleek/chic/whimsical offices you might find in creative industries - but the plain, old, traditional kind of office where you're issued ugly, functional furniture that might be rivaling you in age. That's the kind of office I work in. Not to make it sound like a horrible place - I love my job; it's just lacking a little on the decor side of things (as I think many offices are, despite what the blog world might portray!).

When I moved into my most recent office this past summer, I knew I wanted to get right on that. I moved from a shared office with a window to a private office with no window, so decorating seemed especially important - the space was all mine, and I didn't have a view to help make it cheerier. I did a few things right away, then completely slacked and haven't done anything else. One thing in particular that I wanted to do was 'upholster' the top desk cabinets with fabric, but who knows when I'll get to that. So the space is far from perfect, but it does help to show that a few small touches can make a boring office a little less bland.

I made a couple quick throw pillows to stick on my desk chair.

And I made this 'rug' using outdoor canvas, a fabric drop cloth underneath to make it thicker, and some turquoise trim at the ends.

The giant plant was gifted to me several years ago by someone who left our office, and it had been gifted to her by someone else previously so I think this thing is 10+ years old. I don't know what kind it is (does anyone else know?), but it is such a hearty plant! It's even thriving in my windowless office after a half year.

I got these city postcards with a Birchbox last summer. I spray painted these old frames in glossy white and used navy scrapbook paper as mats.

I know some of you must work in similar offices. Do you do much do decorate?

Diệp Cô Thành có vẻ rất tôn kính đối thủ này.
